1995 The Beginning
European Venture has been and gone, so lets arrange a National venture scout camp ourselves with three ventures and a leader (were we mad, if we were then you must have loved it, as it is now an annual event).
Over 70 ventures attended this the first camp that we organised, many of whom had stories to tell of the trip to Europe for European Venture, especially the night of the storm in Paris. Hundreds, even thousands of Ventures waking up at 6am to find their tents being flattened by the strong winds and some even running after their tents in just their underwear.
The first IOW Venture Camp had many characters, not to mention the Garswood Boys with their non-stop rendition of 'Monty Python'. The evening entertainment consisted of Disco's and a Live Band, and the daytimes were jammed packed with activities of which included surfing / wind-surfing an activity that many of the units had not done before coming from inner cities.
The camp attracted units from all over the UK, from Cheshire to London, from Southampton to Merseyside, from down the road to Birmingham, so we had a great mixture of people, all of which contributed to the success of the camp.

1996 The Second Time Round
Even though we had arranged the camp once before, it was still as hard and time consuming as the first year. The only difference is that we knew 1995 was a success and that everyone liked the format of the camp, and you appreciated the Management's Mentality.
The Opening Ceremony was once again a news item for the 'Isle Of Wight County Press' who like activities arranged by local people.
This year a total of 120 people attended, many of whom attended European Venture and also many that had heard of our camp by word of mouth.

1997 Practice Is Making Perfection
The word of mouth has been working again a 150 Ventures booked for this years camp, this is an ideal number for the management, as it suites the size of the facilities and also it is still very personal, where everyone gets to know everyone else.
Once you have arranged two successful camps you have everything under control, so the Management thought,,,, one of the best things that happened to IOW Venture is the night that 150 people were waiting for the disco to turn up...that never did.
This was time for the Management to put on their 'Red Coats' and arrange a party games night like no one had ever seen before... This was also the year of the 150 person food fight, 150 person twister, pass the Mars Bar and the first year of the team game 'How Far Do You Bare' now imagine that.

1998 The Last IOW Venture
This is now becoming easy to organise, but harder and harder to find new activities to undertake in the tight budget. This was also nearly the end of IOW Venture altogether as the Management were finishing their degrees and getting too old for Ventures.
This was a year of renewed friendship, with a total of 150 + Ventures, the Management put on special additional features such as a massive Balloon net, and introduced Race Night. This was part of the games evening, where the ventures put bets on horses and watched the race on TV, it brought in a real atmosphere of a Race Course with Screaming and Shouting, all for the special tokens that could be won. Everyone knew that TOKENS mean PRIZES. At the end of the evening was an Auction where you could bet all of the gained tokens and Auction for Special Prizes.
We could have given IOW Venture up this year, but we had no choice as you demanded more and more, at the moment that we were just about to make our speech thanking everyone for all of their support over the Years. Cedric the District Venture Scout Leader for the Isle Of Wight made a warm thank you speech to the Management and asked the crowd "Do You Want..", and before he could finish his sentence we had 150 + Ventures screaming...WE WANT MORE, WE WANT MORE. The Management looked at each other and within a split second there was telepathic communication, so we said "If you want more, and we do arrange the camp for you then...we shall arrange more"
So on to 1999.

1999 The Stories Continues....
Another classic year, with new activities including Golf and Sailing etc, the same old astonishing disco's and the camp fire songs are getting worse year by year, but by now a majority of people know them so the camp fires are so raucous.
The camp was full of fun and enjoyment, especially with the new Water Activities. This saw people capsizing dinghy's, Sailing into the Solent on a Sailing Boat and canoeing up the River Medina, it was a complete change to the past water activities of Wind Surfing and Surfing. The comments have been that the Water is freezing, but low and behold that has never stopped Venture Scouts. This new Water Activity was based ON the water and not IN the water, apart from a couple of people who couldn't understand this concept.
The Race Night was still as good as the previous, but the Management choose from a Safety aspect to award prizes after each race, instead of risking another Auction.
The spirit of the attendees at the camp yet again was superb with a real scouting bond between everyone, if you want to meet people then this is the place to come, I know units stay in touch with each other during the year. Some even go as far as inter unit relationships no matter the distance between them (how sweet), this is an optional choice and it is not imposed on you during the camp.

2000 The New Millennium 'A Camp To Celebrate'.
So here we are, in the stages of inviting you to join us and other fellow Ventures in a Venture camp unlike any other, you have to see it to believe it.
The Management listens to your feedback so it is now a well tailored Venture camp arranged by Ventures and improved by Ventures from all over the UK.
The Management welcomes you all to join us for this years 'Isle Of Wight Venture 2000 Festivities' as it could be the last camp that the present Management organise due to personal careers etc. So we want it to go out with an explosive bang, and we are trying to put on a camp that tops any of the others that we have organised.
